Change is not something people take lightly. In fact most people are afraid of it. Mostly it is because when change comes many are not ready for it, so they are in a position of reaction. There are a few simple steps that you can take and become proactive in creating the change you want to see.
The problem with being reactionary when it comes to changing anything is that you are put on the back foot. You didn’t have the time to look at what you’ll need to do to make the change effective and lasting. You didn’t create a plan.
The funny thing is most often you actually know what needs to change, but out of the fear of change didn’t act on it.
You know the old story about wanting to lose weight… many talk about it for years, unfortunately in a large number of instances a serious health scare needs to happen before change actually occurs. Same goes for wanting to make a business happen. You may know what you need to be doing or what you need to fine tune, but if you do nothing then that’s exactly what is going to happen.
So what are the three main steps you need to take to create a change?
This is so important, and yet so many people fail to do it!
Take the time to figure out what exactly you want to change. Be specific! The more specific you are on what you want your outcome to be the easier it is to get there.
Detail it, what will it look like? How will your life/business be different? How will it feel? Don’t worry about what you have to do to get there, right now all we want to know is the outcome you are after. And make a decision to go after whatever you decided you want.
Get other’s input
Now this can be a little tricky because there are plenty of dream stealers out there. However you need to get another perspective on your outcome.
Most people don’t tell anyone what they want or what they are struggling with and because of that they don’t get an outside perspective. This can considerably slows you down from achieving what you want. In business it is great to have the perspective of someone that is within your niche. Ask them if what you are planning on creating would actually be of need to them?
Get the input of others in business, see how they have over come similar challenges. If you are only trying to progress based on what you think, it’s like having the blinkers on.
Success is a team sport! Very few people (if any) achieve anything great alone. Successful business people have coaches, mentors and advisers. They ask for their support and use their expertise.
You don’t want to be the smartest in your business because then you have nowhere to grow. Seek out the support of those that can help you move forward.
Be willing to ask the people in your life to support you. Not just the advisers and mentors, you will also need the support of your family and friends. If they are not up for it, you may have out grown them.
