Until I started looking into why on earth was I constantly broke even though I was on a good income or why I couldn’t get ahead financially even though I started investing, I didn’t realize that such thing as poverty mindset existed. Once I learnt more of what was going on, I realized that it is exactly the problem I need to overcome in my life!
It was something I was extremely well versed in and so are most people around the globe!
The concept of ‘poverty mindset’ is to do with consciously or sub-consciously sabotaging wealth creation and stopping the flow of abundance. I don’t want to sound like a whole lot of ‘woo-woo’ so let me give you some examples of how it may show up….
- Never set foot in fancy stores because you don’t feel good enough to be in there
- Never able to save money no matter how many pay increases you received
- You can never make more than what you spend on what you perceive as needed
- Always be jealous of what other people have
- Feel that happiness is a destination and not a journey
- You cannot spend time/money on yourself, others come first
- Or any other kind of belief (or excuse) that causes the feeling of not being good/smart/pretty/young/old enough…
…and the list could go on and on…
The ‘poverty mindset’ can sneak into your awareness without you even realizing. So today I wanted to share some insight about how you can shift your dial to receive more prosperity and clear some money blocks once and for all…
Firstly let’s get clear: YOU ARE ENOUGH!
Poverty or lack mindset is something that we pick up as part of growing up because as children we cannot tell the difference between ourselves and our actions, as such when we are receiving feedback from our role models, we tend to interpret it as withdrawal of love and since love was taken away, we are not good enough.
Each time you received a negative feedback not only did you feel bad about that occasion, but about all other occasions before where the same feeling arose. This creates a very strong belief in being unworthy.
If you ever watch the ads on TV, that is exactly the way they advertise, they push on the point that you are lacking something without purchasing what they are selling.
To overcome poverty mindset, you will have to combat this exact belief.
You know you are your own worst critic, right. So the first person you need to practice this on is you! When you start hearing your self-talk dishing out the nasties, stop the self-talk, and not by calling yourself an idiot either, that would defeat the purpose.
Instead start asking questions. What triggered the negative self-talk? What are you experiencing right now? What has that experience come to teach you? How could you look at it differently? Become an observer in the situation.
The second step is to stop judging others. This starts with your language. I remember walking down the street, and my mother turning around and just damn right criticizing the looks of people walking by, because they didn’t meet her set of criteria of acceptable. I hated it, but found myself doing the exact same thing, until I realized that the criticism I was dishing out is actually a reflection on myself.
So make the decision to stop criticizing others and situations. If you find yourself dishing out criticism, ask yourself, how does that reflect on you?
When you make anything wrong, whether it’s about looks, jobs or how another person makes their money you actually block your own flow of prosperity.
Judgement will always stunt your progress.
THE THING IS, WHEN YOU’RE READY TO MAKE CHANGES…AND I MEAN SUPER-EMPOWERING CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE THEN RESISTANCE WILL RISE UP LIKE WILDFIRE IN EQUAL PROPORTION TO YOUR DESIRE TO THRIVE.
As you start building your new belief that you are in fact worthy, you will find yourself in situations where your new belief gets challenged, for example finding an opportunity that would advance you some way, but would require a financial commitment from you first.
I use this example, because I noticed that people with a poverty mindset as opposed to a prosperity mindset are unable to invest in themselves, you must learn how to rise above it. Once you do, the rewards are awesome.
You see, the Universe has these opposing forces that make themselves known when you’re on the brink of something huge, it will roll in opportunities to see if you will take them, and follow it up by a challenge just to see if you can rise above it. If you shy away from either, you are not ready to progress to the next level.
IF YOU FIND YOURSELF FEELING FEARFUL OR IRRITATED BY SOMETHING IT IS ALWAYS AN INVITATION TO GROW AS A PERSON.
