If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.

– Jim Rohn

You don’t have to be an entrepreneur to build a happy, healthy and fulfilling life. But you need to have the elements that can help you create such in the right balance and before you can say it is balanced, you need to know what elements you even want in there.

The problem is that most of us have been brought up believing that we had to work hard to make a living, get a job, have the 2.2 kids and once we retire we can live life. What happens if you decide that that picture doesn’t really suit you? What if you want something different? Something more? What if there were better options out there if you were willing to let go of that old belief?

Life is not just about money, responsibility and work. And when you consider the number of hours you get to spend at work that you hate wouldn’t you rather design a life according to what you want? You may as well as otherwise you will keep finding yourself feeling the same: dissatisfied. When you start designing the life you want, you have to be very clear. Do you want freedom? Do you want money? Do you want to work for others? Do you want to learn new skills? Do you want to be creative? The list of questions go on.

As we tend to forget that our life is about us, we tend to put things we want on hold. Put it on that shelf in the back of our mind. Problem with that is that when we start looking, it may be challenging to find what we want for ourselves. If that is you, then start with what you don’t want. It may just jog your memory about what it is you wanted.

If you consider working for yourself, I have to say it is a brilliant idea. Before you jump into it, you have to know that:

  • As much as it is fun, it is also hard work
  • You may not have a boss as such, you will have to answer to yourself if you are not progressing
  • You will need to have some sort of cash backing for when you are trying to get your business off the ground
  • You gotta get the mindset right before you begin! It is a must.

There are great perks to being your own boss, however, as you can design your work hours around what is important without having to explain to anyone. So before you make the jump, create your escape plan. That is what I did. Figure out how much money you would need to take a year or so off, then figure out how you can save that. As you are working toward the launch date, work out what your business is going to be about. How is it going to work, and put any steps you can in place before you jump.

Walking out of the corporate office on your last day will never feel better!

As an entrepreneur, your earning capacity will grow also. It will no longer be linked to the corporate ladder or the CPI index. It will depend on your product, marketing and efforts. If you got it right, your business should be scaleable with minimal effort. Which would mean that your earning can easily skyrocket.

At the end of the day, we all want to have work-life balance so we could have more time to spend with our families, earn more money,  and if you can also be your own boss, have command of your time, while spending each and every minute the way you wanted to, wouldn’t you go for it?

That is what designing your life is about. What kind of life do you dream of living?  Have you started designing your life according to what you want? Now set the goals that will drive you forward. You can join our powerful Goals setting Masterclass to find out how!
